All piercings are done by hand with single-use needles!
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO GET A PIERCING?
The cost of your piercing will depend on:
[Location / Type of Piercing] + [Jewellery]
The base piercing charge includes 1 basic implant grade Titanium jewellery, that has no gems and no decorations.
A selection of upgraded jewellery is available at extra cost if the client wants to wear something different 🙂
💎Available upgrades (extra cost, while supplies last!):
- Implant-grade Titanium selections from Quali-Ti Body Jewellery imported from UK.
- Solid 14k Gold selections from Junipurr Jewelry, Buddha Jewelry Organics , Maya Jewelry imported from Canada and United States.
What are the benefits of using implant-grade Titanium over other grades of metal?
Implant-grade Titanium (certified ASTM F136) is the most appropriate material available for surgical implants, and this level of quality can help piercings heal more quickly compared with other metals such as steel and lower grades of titanium.
On a molecular scale, the composition of ASTM F136 Titanium is tightly bound so that it cannot break down under the skin and release metal particles inside the body. This means that you can safely wear this material in your body for long term, and the jewellery will not leech any heavy metals into your system and the jewellery will not oxidise. You can safely wear Titanium into the shower and into the pool!
👍The use of implant grade Titanium ensures greatest possible chance for a piercing to heal properly. This material is the most biocompatible, even suitable for clients with nickel allergy.
What are the consequences of using cheaper materials, such as surgical steel?
Surgical steel is unsafe for use in piercings due to its high nickel content, which can cause complications for those with a sensitivity to nickel. As many as ten per cent of the world’s population has a metal sensitivity. Surgical steel is not as tightly bound as titanium, so particles of the jewellery, including nickel, can leech into the client’s system.
👎Cheaper metals can also oxidise and stain the skin causing longterm damage.
One of the most common reasons why a piercing is very often irritated and “never heal” could be due to poor quality material. Excessive discharge and unpleasant smell is a sign of poor quality jewellery.
The jewellery I use is entirely free of nickel and made of materials approved for long-term use in the human body!
What are the benefits of using high quality gemstones over generic stones?
The shine of cheaper quality gems comes from a laying foil laid underneath a rhinestone to enhance its sparkle. They are easily scratched, become dull and colourless over time and, due to the use of glue to set them, often fall out completely.
👍I only carry brands that use high-quality stones like Swarovski crystals elements and semi-precious stones, carefully set using prong or bezel settings, to ensure the jewellery can be used continuously for many years!
I DO NOT USE BUTTERFLY BACKING EARRINGS, and do not offer such jewellery!
Earrings with Butterfly back is often included with gun piercings. They are typically of lower quality, and the bulkiness of the backing can easily trap dead skin and bacteria leading to infection and constant irritation. Piercers that sell this type of jewellery will often use a gun to do the piercing. This is one way to tell if the piercer will be using a needle or gun to perform the piercing.
🙅🏻♀️I do not suggest wearing this type of jewellery in Cartilage piercings, because the bulkiness of the backing can easily catch on hair causing irritation. When worn in the Tragus the large backing will also block the ear, and it can potentially fall off and fall into the ear too!
In accordance to APP standards, with maximum safety and optimal hygiene in consideration, I use a flat-back Labret stud for most piercings on the EAR (except Rook, Daith, Anti-Tragus, Snug, Orbital, Trans-Lobe, Industrial).
Trans-Lobe, Rook, Anti-Tragus, Snug, Eyebrow, Vert. Labret, Navel: Curved Barbell
Daith, Orbital, Septum, Smiley: Circular Ring (clicker) or Circular Barbell
Industrial, Nipple, Tongue, Bridge: Straight Barbell
I also use a flat-back Labret stud for initial Nostril and Lip piercings, and do not offer rings to start!
I prefer not to use Rings as initial jewellery due to potential healing concerns.
🔱‼️ DOWNSIZE POLICY ‼️🔱
For most piercings: Ear Lobe, Helix, Flat, Tragus(and anti), Conch, Industrial, Nipple, Tongue, and Lip – We start the piercing initially with a longer jewellery to help accommodate swelling during the first stage of healing.
‼️ The base piercing charge includes 1 basic implant grade Titanium jewellery (Long bar).‼️
Swelling Reduction (approx): Ear Lobe (6-8 weeks), Helix/ Flat/ F.Helix/ Conch/ Tragus/ Industrial (2-3months), Tongue (6-8 weeks), Lip (2-3months), Nipple (4-6months), the client is encouraged to come back for a Downsize / Check Up session for us to downsize the first jewellery; to change the post from the first long stud to a shorter more fitted jewellery.
‼️ The client is responsible for contacting and booking the check up session!‼️
‼️ Downsized post is extra cost – $200 hkd each backing (Short bar).‼️
‼️ We will only be changing the Backing, making it shorter. The Front design will be reused.‼️
👍 The client is allowed to change the jewellery to their own after the piercing is fully recovered – when the skin feels normal, with no soreness and no sensitivity!
⭕️ All of our Titanium jewellery is Internally Threaded – rotate clockwise to tighten, and anticlockwise to release. “Righty tighty, Lefty loosey”. This type is more secure, but can also be more difficult for the client to change themselves.
⭕️ All of our Gold jewellery is Threadless – push pin style, push into the stem to secure and twist + pull to release. This type is easier for the client to manipulate, but can also be accidentally pulled out.
❌ We do not encourage the use of Externally Threaded jewellery because the bumpy threading on the outside of the stem can be “scratchy” and scrape the piercing channel when changing jewellery. The threading on the outside can also harbour bacteria, and push contaminates inside the piercing channel when changing jewellery. This type is often sold at mall kiosks and commonly used by piercers that are less experienced and not certified. Learning how to check the Threading is the easiest way for a client to tell what is good quality jewellery and poorly made pieces. If a piercer is using Externally Threaded jewellery, this can be a warning sign.
Gold by nature is a precious material so the cost of using Gold jewellery will be pricier than Titanium. Even though Gold is more costly, the benefit of using genuine Gold jewellery is that some manufactures will offer an individual warranty.
Please note that the replacement jewellery will be offered by the same company (as the defective one). The replacement jewellery will be the same design, style, size and colour. If the same replacement is not possible, a store credit of equal value will be issued. Sorry, no monetary refunds!
“We offer a lifetime warranty on all our jewelry. This applies to any defects in materials and workmanship.”
“We guarantee our solid gold ends and clickers of any manufacturer defects for life. We will replace any broken items at our discretion or issue you a store credit if we are not able to exchange.”
“All Maya Jewelry are covered by a manufacturer’s warranty for 6 months from date of purchase.”
WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW WHEN GETTING PIERCED FOR THE FIRST TIME?
Please understand that a fresh piercing is basically an open wound. I am using a single-use surgical needle to create a crescent shaped wound in your skin, and then an implant grade Titanium jewellery is threaded inside that channel of your skin.
It sounds easy, but of course a lot of math calculations and experience is needed to create a piercing that is aesthetically pleasing AND can heal successfully 🙂
💆🏻♀️I direct the client to do a breathing method (“Take a Deep Breath in….”/ “Slowly Breathe out…”) during the piercing process to minimise discomfort and focus their attention on their breathing.
🌬Most piercings are completed within a “breathing in and breathing out” motion.
Using a needle creates the most smooth and hygienic channel to ensure optimal healing, HOWEVER, if the channel (open wound) is not properly taken care of, irritation or infection can happen too.
Infection and Irritation are not the same, and they have different solutions. You can learn more about that in my FAQ (with pics close to the bottom).
🩹 RECOVERY INFORMATION
Because the fresh piercing is basically an open wound, you should not sleep on the healing piercing! Doing this can lead to infection, and make the piercing heal crooked.
General Recovery (approx): Ear Lobes (6-8 weeks), Ear Cartilage (6 months+), Septum/ Tongue (6-8 weeks), Lip/ Nostril/ Navel/ Nipple (6 months+).
Please note that recovery time is only suggested because factors like lifestyle and aftercare can affect the healing duration.
👉Clients that wish to get Cartilage piercings on both ears will be strongly encouraged to sleep on their backs OR they can focus collecting on a single ear first, until the other piercings are more comfortable to handle.
Ear Lobes are the only exception that can be safely pierced on both sides at same time, because the tissue is more flexible and the skin heals faster than cartilage.
When your piercing is healing, your skin will undergo some visible changes. In the beginning week, the piercing area will begin to swell. It will be sore to the touch, and there will be some localised redness, and maybe some bruising too. Bleeding is also very common and to be expected because I am cutting a hole in your skin.
Due to the initial swelling that will happen to your skin – the new piercing will first need to wear a longer post (backing) – this is intended to help accommodate swelling.
The most noticeable change is localised swelling. Your skin around the piercing will swell and then reduce. After the reduction in swelling, this still does not mean your piercing is fully healed! This only means your piercing is recovering well , but it is not yet fully recovered so you should continue to clean and care.
👉To assist in the last stages of healing, we strongly encourage the client to schedule a piercing check up session for us to assess the halfway point of recovery, and check if a downsize of the jewellery is needed.
The most important focus when caring for your piercing is hygiene. Try your best to keep the area as clean as possible, away from contamination and irritants. If you need to touch the piercing site, only do so with clean hands!!
Your body will do most of the recovery work, so staying healthy is actually the most important! Keep up with your vitamins, and keep up with your sleep.
👉Because a fresh piercing is basically an open wound, keeping the piercing site clean and free from contamination will prevent bacterial infections.
I suggest using a 🧼CLEANSER in the shower to topically clean the surrounding skin around the piercing. I suggest using a cleanser that has no alcohol and no fragrance. (You can check my Aftercare Guide for a picture suggestion). You do not need to remove the jewellery!
🚿IN THE SHOWER: Using a soapy cleanser + your finger’s gentle touch, lather away surface sebum, dead skin accumulation, dried discharge, make up, etc.
In addition to using a cleaner, the client can also add an additional step into their cleaning routine to help with management of the swelling phase:
🥛Sea Salt Soak / Saline Soak (morning + night) Hold for 3-5 mins.
💦Saline is very gentle and its mild properties will help soothe irritations and help reduce swelling. The focus is to envelop the entire piercing site under the saline, so the solution can penetrate into the piercing channel and flush out irritants. This can also help dissolve away dried matter, and help irrigate hard to reach piercings (Daith, Forward Helix, Rook, Nostril and Septum piercings should always use this method).
You can purchase bottled medical grade saline from Watson’s Pharmacy or local HK pharmacies. (Picture example in my Aftercare Guide)
💦NeilMed Piercing Aftercare is a sterile Saline Solution spray that can be used to conveniently irrigate and flush the piercing. Great to keep in your purse or school bag to clean on the go. This is an easy alternative to the soaking method. (Due to the nozzle tip, Septum and Nostril Piercings should always use Soaking method)
We sell this for $200 hkd at Mofo Tattoo (or +$100 with piercing service), you can purchase anytime Mofo is open: Monday to Sunday from 2 to 10pm.
WHAT CAN I DO WHEN MY PIERCING IS IRRITATED?
When your piercing is irritated, the best way to soothe that issue is to do a Saline Soak (as explained in my Aftercare Guide) . Even piercings that are well healed can sometimes flair up if cleaning has stopped. Depending on location, you can choose to use NeilMed Piercing Aftercare (sold by me) or follow my suggested Saline Soak/ Sea Salt Soak.
WHEN REQUESTING A PRICE, PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT PIERCING YOU WOULD LIKE TO GET 🙂
The exact placement of the piercing will be determined by your piercer based on your anatomy and jewellery selected, but please give me a general idea of what/where you want to get pierced (ex. Ear Lobe, Helix/ Flat, Tragus, Daith, Conch, Rook, etc.) so I can provide an accurate quotation.
Some piercings such as Industrial, Rook, Forward Helix, Snug, Anti-Tragus, etc. are very anatomy dependant, and may not be possible on everyone’s ear. *Please consider an alternative piercing just in case the one you want is not possible on your anatomy 🙂
Curated Ear: You can use photos in my portfolio or elsewhere to help you express which area/placement you like and I can work with your own personal anatomy to reach a satisfactory site to pierce.
I prefer to do piercings that can heal successfully with many jewellery options for your future upgrades! For this reason I stay away from “experimental” placements. 👍
❌Piercings I do not offer: I don’t do microdermal, genital piercings, cheek piercings, surface piercings, “snake eye” horizontal tongue piercing, tongue web piercing, and other ‘experimental’ and risky piercings that I think are problematic and won’t heal well.
I also do not typically carry jewellery that will fit these piercings, if you are interested in more experimental work I would suggest looking for a different service provider for these particular items as I do not carry them in my inventory and do not provide ordering services at present.
CAN YOU HELP ME WITH A PIERCING DONE BY SOMEBODY ELSE?
Please understand that an irritated piercing can be due to a number of different reasons. Because the original piercing was not done by me, I may not be able to comment on your situation with certainty. If the original piercing was done improperly such as incorrect position or angle, changing the jewellery won’t solve the issue. I charge a basic service fee of $300 hkd when troubleshooting piercings not done by me. The cost does not include jewellery and aftercare products. My service fee also applies to jewellery installs on piercings not done by me. If a needle is used to reopen a blocked/ closed piercing, this process is the same as a fresh piercing procedure so full piercing charge applies.
DO I NEED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT?
✔️ YES! I work by appointments only at Mofo Tattoo.
(I am away Tuesday + Wednesday)
❌I DO NOT ACCEPT WALK INS! I will not have time to change/ remove/ reinstall jewellery if the client comes as a walk in, because my time is committed to clients that have arranged an appointment 🤝
Any service that requires my time and attention will need a booking:
If you wish to purchase jewellery and need my help/advice on installation – You need to make an appointment.
If you wish to purchase jewellery and already know what type/ size you need (and do not need my help) – You are welcome to come visit during my working hours (no appointment needed).
❌NO JEWELLERY PURCHASES on Tuesday and Wednesday.
My time and attention will be prioritised on clients that have arranged a booking!
NEW PIERCING, JEWELLERY CHANGE, OR CONSULTATION?
I typically section off 30min session per client for 1-4 piercings on the ear. The actual piercing is fast, and the time consuming parts are curation, jewellery selection and answering questions.
If you will be getting more than 4 piercings OR if you will be getting ear piercings AND body piercings please consider booking 1 full hour (2x 30min session).
Consultations are free and there is no immediate commitment , but when booking please let me know if you would like to: 1. Book a consultation session and go home to think about it OR 2. Book a consultation and will be getting pierced on the same visit . This will help be determine how much time to section off in my schedule.
If you are booking with a friend please select SEPARATE sessions (ex. 2 people = 30mins each client).
I DO NOT POST MY PRICES ONLINE
Please kindly note that I am only 1 person, so my schedule can fill up fast. I never have time for same day requests. Please consider booking early to avoid disappointment! Thank you!
